Duramax Magnetic Drain Plugs
The factory plugs on your Duramax transfer case are great and serve their purpose, however, there is always room for improvement. This kit features magnetic drain plugs for your transfer case to catch small metal debris that is suspended in the fluid. This not only prevents these harmful flakes of metal from making their way into the vital parts of your transfer case, but it also makes cleaning them off during every serving interval, very easy.

What Is Pump Rub?

Pump Rub refers to a gear pump failure in GM transfer cases from 1998-early 2007. The gear pump works by forcing oil to the planetary as well as the drive sprocket sleeve. The gear pump is driven by a shaft, so the housing of the pump must “float” in the rear housing of the transfer case. The pump housing has tabs that fit into spots in the rear housing to locate the pump housing and prevent it from spinning inside the case with the mainshaft. Over time, these pump tabs can wear on the rear housing and start to wear on the aluminum pump housing causing a small leak. Due to the location of the leak, many vehicles do not experience dripping while parked, but rather while driving, leaving it gone unnoticed. The transfer case on these vehicles do not have a low fluid indicator, which means that by the time the problem is noticed, it is usually too late.

From the factory, GM installed a spring steel clip in the housing to prevent this type of wear, but this has proved to break and become useless in these situations.

With the installation of this transfer case repair/upgrade kit, you can prevent this before it happens and avoid costly repair bills. You will also get a LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY against pump rub. If you have this kit installed and your case wears a hold in the new rear housing, we will buy you a new transfer case. This warranty will only apply to installations with a new rear housing.

FAQ:

What do I do with the OEM anti rattle clip when installing this upgrade?

Discard the factory clip during installation of the MA Transfer Case Pump Upgrade kit. It's been designed and precision machined to work with the clip removed.

What other parts will I need to install this upgrade kit?

We tried to make the kit all inclusive for a basic installation when it is being installed as preventative measure. If it's being installed as part of a repair or after pump rub has occurred, there is no real way to know the extent of the damage inside the case until it is completely disassembled. In many instances, as long as the case has not run out of fluid, it can be repaired with a new rear housing and seal and prevented from ever happening again using the upgrade kit. Regardless of the reason for installing this upgrade, you will need to refill the transfer case with the Merchant Automotive Performance Transfer Case Fluid included in this kit for excellent lubrication and performance. Be sure to replace your original drain and fill plugs with the Merchant Automotive Magnetic Drain Plug kit also included with this kit as an additional layer of protection to catch metal debris from the fluid circulating inside the transfer case as well as replacing the factory plugs which are often rounded off or damaged.

I hear a grinding noise at low speed after installing the kit. What could that be?

A low speed grinding noise is most commonly caused by the rear output bearing snap ring not being fully seated causing the bearing to move out of proper alignment. Verify that the snap ring is fully engaged and properly seated in the rear housing and the locating groove in the bearing.

What would cause a speed sensor correlation code after installing this upgrade?

A speed sensor correlation code is often accompanied by a low speed grinding noise and is frequently caused by the rear output bearing snap ring not being fully seated causing the bearing to move out of proper alignment. Verify that the snap ring it fully engaged and properly seated in the rear housing and the locating groove in the bearing.
